Abstract from The Evolution and History of Electronic Dating
This first report, The Evolution and History of Electronic Dating, presents a history of the phenomenon of romantic partnering via electronic networked communications systems. It is not meant to be an exhaustive history; any history detailing a major societal practice will fail at attempting to cover every possible element and happenstance regarding that practice – certainly this report will miss even many important elements. Instead, this report will facilitate the reader with a working knowledge of the subject’s evolution, beginning in the 1840s with one-to-one romantic partnering during the early days of telegraphy, and concluding in the late 1990s during the era of Internet-based on-line dating services. It is followed by the second report, The Present and Future of Electronic Dating.
Abstract from The Present and Future of Electronic Dating
In the previous report, The Evolution and History of Electronic Dating, an overview of the yesteryears of dating with wired network technologies was expounded upon. That report brought the reader nearly up to the state of today’s electronic dating world. This report, The Present and Future of Electronic Dating, begins and moves forward from there. It will discuss what the innovation known as on-line dating is today, how it is perceived by users, and how it is diffused and adopted by the masses. It will highlight key players in the electronic dating business world, as well as upstarts that are presenting challenges to these incumbents’ business models. Lastly, it will parlay some predictions about the future of electronic dating communications technologies, including how web culture is shaping its future.
